A Bromley mother is to conquer her fear of heights by bungee jumping off London’s O2 Arena in aid of the Kent Air Ambulance.

Delivery driver Karen Williamson, 44, is to hurl herself off the 160ft-high building on May 15.

She will be watched by family and friends including mother Shirley Williamson and son Nathan Corroll.

It will be a giant leap for Karen who was so scared of heights she was in tears on the 100ft-high ferris wheel at Blackpool Pier.

She said: “I’ll be crying on the day because I’m absolutely petrified of heights in a big way.

“I was going to do it last year but didn’t go through with it. It’s something I’ve been obsessing about every since.

“I just said to myself that I was going to do it because in a couple of years I will look back and say, ‘Why didn’t I do that’.

“I want to confront my fears and people I have spoken to who have done it have said how good you feel about yourself afterwards.”

Karen, of Rangefield Road, has for raised more than £200 for the Kent Air Ambulance - a charity which needs £1.7m-a-year to keep the helicopter flying.

She said: “The air ambulance is absolutely brilliant and I fully support the tremendous job they do.”

The former Dartford West School pupil has been preparing for her bungee jump by swimming and cycling.

She added: “I’m just trying to focus my energy because I want to stay in control of my body on the day.

“When I think about it I get anxious and I get flutters in my stomach but I’ve got to do it because I’ve backed myself into a corner.”

Karen is a budding actress who has appeared in Eastenders, The Bill, Birds of a Feather and Soldier, Soldier. To sponsor her, call 07956 835855.
